Technical
evaluation of Water Sector Projects prepared by
WAPDA, Provincial Irrigation Departments and
other agencies, and rendering expert advice to
the Ministry of Water & Power and concerned
agencies. Besides, expert advice is given on
any engineering matter as and when referred to
the Civil Engineering Branch

Render expert
advice on international disputes arising out of
the works constructed or likely to be
constructed in neighboring countries having
repercussions on the river flows of Pakistan

General
liaison with international organizations in
matters related to water resources, e.g.
irrigation, drainage, flood control, etc.
Pakistan is a member of the International
Commission on Irrigation & Drainage (ICID) since
1953. The Civil Engineering Branch works as the
Secretariat of Pakistan National Committee of
ICID (PANCID). The objectives of ICID meetings
are to identify and discuss the water sector
related issues with main focus on irrigation &
drainage, and to exchange and share expertise
among scientists, engineers, environmentalist,
etc. and thus cooperate in development of
effective economical and feasible techniques and
methods related to water for agriculture
development.
Report on the 20th ICID Congress & 59th IEC Meeting of ICID held
from Oct, 13-18 at Lahore
The 20th International
Congress and 59th IEC Meeting of the International Commission on
Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) was successfully held in the historical
city of Lahore, from 13-18 October, 2008. All the activities/events were
conducted in consolance with the preplanned scheduled. The six day
international event held in times of serious security concerns not only
achieved the agenda of sharing of knowledge and expertise amongst the
150 international and more than 400 local participants, but also in
addressing the present /future issues of Water Sector. The theme of the
Conference “Participatory Integrated Water Resources Management-From
Concepts to Actions” was very much related to the challenges faced by
the world in the 21st Century.
